The mounting global food crisis is seen by many experts as a result of the industrial world's egotism. For decades, the wealthier nations have been pledging increases in development aid while in practice they have often cut development funding. At the same time, trade agreements ensure that many products from emerging countries never find their way onto international markets. Experts have noted disturbing examples worldwide and say the current food crisis comes as no surprise and that the row over biofuel only sidesteps the real issues.
