Some 30 years ago, Professor Muhammad Yunus made the first loan of $27 to a group of 42 women, so they could expand their bamboo furniture-making business.

Today, 97% of the 7.5 million borrowers at the Grameen bank he founded are women.

In a lecture given at the Commonwealth Club in California, the Nobel Prize winner and guru of microfinancing talks about a future in which people visit “poverty museums”.
